I think that Leper went crazy. He ran away from the fact that he was discharged. The army knew what was happening to him and they wanted to discharged. Leper was scared to do things like that.

Leper went crazy. He got discharged from the army because he couldn't handle boot camp. The army probably knew he couldn't handle the war.

I think Leper went crazy. He got a section 8 discharge because he couldn't handle the not sleeping and physical demanding parts.

I think that Leper was too innocent to be sent to the war and excepted of to do well. Leper was to naive and, almost like Finny, didn't accept the real bad in the world. Once Leper realized that the war was so real and impending he didn't know what to do with himself or how to keep his thoughts sane.

I think Leper didn't really realize what he was going in to when he went into the war. I think he was really fragile that he just lost control of himself after being at the war for a while.

I don't think Leper even made it through boot camp. He is too fragile and when his eyes were finally opened to the real world, he was shocked so bad that he went crazy.

I believe he got dispatched because of his state of mind. Physically and mentally, they probably dispatched him because he was not ready for the war.

I don't really agree with what you said about him being scared to fight in the war. If Leper was scared, why would he have enlisted in the first place? And if he had been scared, why would he have been so angry when he was talking to Gene about being discharged?
