The real war for Gene was inside himself. The war was never between Gene and Finny, Gene created the war and fought it with himself. The war ended for Gene when him and Finny talked right before Finny died. This ended the war inside Gene because he had peace, and peace with Finny.

I think that Genes war existed inside of him. All of his jealousy made him weaker and he had to fight harder to get past the jealousy. He also had to fight harder because he felt guilt inside himself for causing Finny to get hurt. The war inside of him ended when Finny and him talked things out and when Finny died.

The real war for Gene was in himself. He was fighting with himself from what he has done to Finny. The war ended for Gene when Finny died. Gene will always still have that feeling of hatred toward himself for knowing he was part of Finny's death.
